   THAMES SCOUT CRUISING CLUB

ORIGIN

In 1991 a small group of Scouting persons had the idea to start a boat club for all in Scouting, who had boats on the River Thames. An originator of the Club contacted Scout HQ and discussed the idea. The result was that we could start a Scout Boat Club under POR Rules for Scout Fellowship, as all members were to be in the Movement. Also that we could use the Scout Arrowhead on our LOGO with a white ring around the outside to denote a life belt.

We were formed as FELLOWSHIP AFLOAT and the permission from Scout HQ was given to the County Commissioner of GLSW (at that time) Mr John Donaldson.

Following an article in Scouting Magazine and personal contacts a meeting was called for interested persons to attend.

At the inaugural meeting on Jan 1992 at 1st Hook Scout HQ GLSW it was agreed that as we were all members of the Scout movement, we already had enough rules, ref to POR and that the Constitution was basically agreed in order to cover the Boating aspect of the Club.

The name of the club to be THAMES SCOUT CRUISING CLUB.

Originators of the Club:

John Donaldson, Dave Meineck,

Paul Richardson, Neil Winckless.

The aims and aspirations of the Originators were to provide the opportunity of relaxation for members of the Scout Association who had boats to get away and share occasions with like minded people, and the other to provide a point of identity and recognition for meeting members afloat. Hence FELLOWSHIP AFLOAT.

Likewise the Officers of the Club to be active in Scouting whom, along with a small committee would be elected on an Annual basis by the membership.

The Club would not have Flag Officers, Commodores and the like, but would keep a minimum of Officers in order to maintain and run a Committee to produce a Program that all in the Club could attend.

Dave Meineck.
